One of the oldest of the Traildog books still at press.
Hiking and Backpacking with Dogs [DOWNLOAD: ADOBE READER] by Richard Lerner, DVM This is the downloadable version of the
"Nuts'n'Bolts" book. A personal recommendation if you want a "just the facts,
m'am" treatment. Written by a traildog owning veterinarian. I like
it.
Hiking With Dogs (FalconGuide) by Linda B.
Mullally
Hiking With Your Dog by Gary Hoffman Written
by a former Traildog subscriber, so it has to be good, right?!

A Walk Across America by
Peter Jenkins (2001 Edition) One of my all time favorite Traildog books even

additional information.
Blind Courage Blind
Courage by Bill Irwin & David McCasland
Autobiographical story of Bill Irwin, the first blind man to thru-hike the
Appalachian Trail, and "Orient," the guide dog who led him. Inspirational
book. Bill even has his own website.
A Dog's Life: The Autobiography of Rusty the Ready River Dog by Forrest Altman, Star Square Press, 1200 Jack Pointer Road, Semora
NC 26343-9437. Not available through Amazon.com. The life of a 17-year old
paddledog. Not a shaggy-dog story. Life seen through the lens of a dog.
Definitely not "doggy talk."
Stickeen by John Muir, Malcolm Margolin
(Afterword) & Carl Dennis Buell (Illustrator) I was completely unaware
of this book by one of America's great naturalists until I saw a note on it in
Backpacker magazine. A neat story.
Travelers' Tales - A Dog's World by Christine
Hunsicker (Editor-Preface), Maria Goodavage (Introduction) Collection of
traveling dog stories as published by the "Traveler's Tales" travel narrative
series.
Travels With Charley : In Search of America by
John Steinbeck One of the great "on the road" stories. Steinbeck traveled
America with "Charley," his Standard Poodle, in an RV during the early Sixties.
Both funny & poignant, it's a glimpse back to pre-Vietnam/pre-Watergate
America.
Walking My Dog, Jane : From Valdez to Prudhoe Bay Along the
Trans-Alaska Pipeline (Emerging Writers in Creative Nonfiction) by Ned Rozell
War Dogs -- The
Ultimate Trail Dogs
Always Faithful : A Memoir of the Marine Dogs of WWII by William W. Putney, DVM, USMC A veterinarian and former US

Trackers : The Untold Story of the Australian Dogs of
War by Peter Haran

Dogs : A History of Loyalty and Heroism by Michael G. Lemish
Lemish does a great job of telling the story of America's canine corps
between World War I and the post-Vietnam period
